The role

As someone working in the life science industry with significant experience in scaling scientific laboratories, this is a unique opportunity to help shape the ongoing success of a science-based SME with a bright future.


  • Inspire & mentor a team of Process Engineers, scientists, and technicians.
  • Optimise Molecular Biology protocols for large-scale production.
  • Identify & implement automated technologies into existing laboratory workflows.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, & milestones for the scale-up of core Molecular Biology Processes.
  • Identify & resolve challenges or issues that may arise during the scale-up process.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business to ensure successful execution of scale-up initiatives.
  • Ensure that all processes meet regulatory/quality standards, including Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and ISO standards.
  • Define & implement continuous improvement strategies to refine & enhance scaled-up processes over time.

About you

  • Significant experience in scaling scientific laboratories.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges associated with scaling a laboratory.
  • Experience in managing/coaching a team.
  • Passion for driving innovation whilst always maintaining quality.
  • Strong knowledge of PCR techniques.
  • Strong understanding of Molecular Biology principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations & quality standards in the life sciences industry.

What Sets You Apart
  • PhD in Molecular Biology or similar/equivalent experience
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities/technologies.
  • Strong communication, project management & interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative mindset.
  • Experience of taking a commercial lab through the scale up phase.
