Job description

- To initiate and implement policy and service development changes within the Learning Disabilities services, and in collaboration with Learning Disabilities senior leadership team, as directed by the Clinical Director for Learning Disabilities. - To provide professional leadership and/or clinical supervision to psychology leads in each of the Learning Disabilities Services in addition to other psychological therapies team members as required. - To provide specialist services for delegated areas of clinical responsibility and leadership within the Learning Disabilities services directed by the Clinical Director for Learning Disabilities - To provide expert consultation for members of the Learning Disabilities Services. - To be an active participant, and lead on, appropriate workstreams within the Learning Disability Learning Network - To provide a direct specialist clinical service to people with Learning Disabilities where appropriate. To provide highly developed specialist psychological assessments, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and specialist neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with staff members, and with family members and others involved subject to staff members informed consent. To work with the Learning Disabilities Team Managers and key clinical staff, across the trust, to ensure the delivery of best practice psychologically informed care and treatment plans by the team in an efficient and timely manner. To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and or management of patients psychological difficulties based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy. To support the delivery of a range of psychological interventions by the Learning Disabilities services. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses. To work with the Learning Disabilities Management Team and key clinical staff across the trust in the delivery of psychologically informed evaluations and decisions about treatment options by the team. To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped presenting difficulties. To provide expertise and specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to staff members assessment, formulation, and intervention plans. To ensure that all members of the learning disabilities services have access to a psychologically based framework for the understanding and care of clients using the service, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological knowledge, research and theory. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for relevant individuals and to provide both general and specialist advice for psychological therapists and other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management. To contribute to overall co-ordination of care and support offered by the Learning Disabilities Services as appropriate, ensuring the provision of a care package appropriate for the clients needs, arranging patients care reviews as required and communicating effectively with the patient, and his/her family and others involved in their care as appropriate. To communicate, in a highly skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients under their care and to monitor and evaluate progress. To provide expertise and advice to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all psychological therapies staff within the team. To provide expert consultation about the psychological models and service delivery to staff and agencies outside the team, Directorate and Trust.
