Our DWP Digital teams are driving a once-in-a-generation transformation of government services, using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to create innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions.

You'll help change the face of public services used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives. The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

Delivery. Work. Projects.

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer you will lead an in-house team of brilliant senior SREs who are each accountable for the reliability of DWP business and citizen-facing applications.

You will collaborate with product owners and other senior stakeholders across the business to define, monitor, and dashboard performance of these applications.

We'll look to you to balance the priorities of your SRE team. Together you'll ensure the safe onboarding of applications and support continuous improvements to live applications.

Your team will support and carry out incident management and root cause analysis, looking to you for expertise when they need it.

We work in agile, multi-disciplinary teams, and will work with development teams from the design phase to help influence them using your vision for best practice and high quality as they build, maintain and modernise applications.

What skills, knowledge or experience will you need?

  • Significant experience of scripting to automate processes, removing toil including infrastructure and configuration as code.
  • High level experience of building and improving CI / CD Pipelines.
  • Significant experience of engaging with wider Engineering community and stakeholders at multiple levels to provide guidance, feedback and support whilst sharing knowledge and good practice.
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting a Live Service.
  • Good practical working knowledge of a broad range of technologies, both open source and proprietary.
  • Demonstrable experience of designing, building, maintaining and supporting cloud-based platforms and applications (AWS and/or Azure).

Experience of working with any of the following technologies is also desirable: Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Java, Javascript, MongoDB, Docker, JSON, YAML, SQL, Git, GitLab CI.

You'll join us in your choice of our digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly. We work a hybrid model with a mix of home working and time in the office.

In return for your skills, we offer a competitive pay of up to £89,995.

You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions of 27.9% of salary, worth over £19,000 a year.

You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take extra days off on flexi leave.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexible working, flexi hours and flexi days
  • Hybrid working: some time in a hub with the team, some time at home
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving
