Job description

Lead Software Developer - Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP)

The starting salary is £65,393 which includes allowances totalling £2,841.

The salary is broken down as £62,552 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £66,997. Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Birmingham/London with hybrid working

As a Lead Software Developer for Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP), you’ll do something critical: change the way technical solutions are delivered to the CTP community. As a senior member of a newly created team, you’ll help play your part in keeping the country safe. Join us and help protect the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive change within National CTP HQ. Using your expertise - plus your understanding of both the technical and business context around solutions - you’ll shape the future of Counter Terrorism Policing systems.

You’ll be part of a new team of Software Engineers, working flexibly from home or from one of our easily accessible offices in Birmingham or London. Together, you’ll work to create a world-class development function. As a Lead Developer, you’ll be expected to apply your skills without support, to determine and use the most appropriate tools and techniques, and to guide and mentor others, sharing knowledge and experience.

Whatever the project, you’ll ensure that our range of CTP applications are built, designed, and architected in a secure, efficient way. Flexibility and motivation will be essential, as you ensure that the various systems are well documented.

At this level you’ll need knowledge of at least one of the following:

  • Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Continuous integration
  • Cryptography and cryptanalysis
  • Mobile App Development
  • Secure by Design Coding.

You’ll also need knowledge of at least three of the following:

.NET (VB, C#, ASP.NET, .NET CORE)

  • MVC Framework
  • Python
  • JavaScript (REACT, Bootstrap Frameworks)
  • Database design
  • SQL / SQL Server
  • NoSQL technologies e.g., MongoDB, Hadoop, etc.

If you’re the right person for the role, you’ll bring experience of working on a range of applications across the development lifecycle plus proven leadership skills. We’re looking for a highly motivated professional with the communication skills to guide a team of Software Developers.

Ticked all the boxes? In return for your efforts and expertise, we can offer a competitive salary, a Civil Service pension, excellent career development, plus a role that’s like no other.
