Role -Lead Software Engineer

About our Team

Our growing and dynamic Submission Systems Department supports our diverse range of authors, editors and reviewers across more than 2,500 journals. We deliver software that integrates with Editorial Manager, our industry-leading publishing workflow management system. We work to optimize process flows, enhance communication between our authors, editors and reviewers and reduce the publication time for academic research.

About the Role

As a Tech Lead, you will collaborate across our organization with cross-functional technical teams to design systems and architectures. You will help us to successfully deliver product enhancements and innovations in an Agile environment. You will work with Product Owners and UX Designers to understand requirements to build into technology that delights our customers

Responsibilities

Collaborating with product owners and UX designers to understand complex product requirements
Working closely with the Software Engineering lead, architects, peers and cross-functional teams to help design extensible systems and architectures
Ensuring software delivery meets our company standards for accessibility, security and privacy protection
Working in an Agile software development environment to support the writing and refinement of user stories and tasks
Engaging in discussions to identify ideas for product, process and team-working improvement
Carrying out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

Have enthusiasm for working with Agile, XP, or Lean software development principles, such BDD, TDD, story mapping, user journeys, Kanban boards, stand-up meetings and retrospectives
Have experience with writing backend code in any modern programming language, such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python, PHP, Ruby, Groovy, or Go
Display experience of Software Engineering design principles and architecture (for example SOLID, REST, micro-services, event driven architecture)
Demonstrate experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks
Demonstrate experience using testing frameworks such as Junit, PyTest, or similar
Have experience of CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Travis, or similar. You have some experience or knowledge of developing with cloud services
