Job description

Kennet Valley Primary School is opening a new unit for 12 children with SEMH/Autism. The unit will open in September 2024. We are looking to recruit the Lead Teacher for this unit to start in April 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
This role would suit a UPS Teacher and comes with a TLR1 and a SEN Allowance.
The purpose of this early recruitment is so that the Lead Teacher can continue to develop the unit curriculum. Help to contribute to the final design, furnishings and equipment for the new unit. Develop and implement transition programmes for pupils starting in September 2024.
Job Purpose:
Your role is to ensure the effective planning for and monitoring of pupil progress across the curriculum and the social and emotional development of children in the SEMH provision.
To ensure a positive and inclusive experience for children attending the provision, promoting good teaching, effective learning and high standards in all areas.
Strategic Roles:
To ensure clear and consistent communication with SLT by attending and contributing to Leadership meetings as required.
To develop a curriculum that meet the needs of all learners in the SEMH/Autism provision.
To liaise with colleagues and other professionals outside of school to support the development of learning.
To promote a Therapeutic Thinking Approach.
To chair team meetings with clear agendas given prior to the meeting.
To organise staff rotas as necessary.
With the Senior Leadership Team, be part of the selection and recruitment of new staff.
To develop and deliver an induction programme for new staff. and ensure they also complete the school’s standard induction procedures.
To line manage and support colleagues within your team.
To identify training needs of team members.
With SLT, plan training schedules for staff development and support.
To have an overview of individual timetables to ensure pupils receive the breadth of learning opportunities and emotional support to meet their needs.
To attend Parents’ Evenings.
To develop inclusion opportunities for pupils.
To develop curriculum and personal development enhancement opportunities off site.
To monitor and support the wellbeing of staff teams.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
To ensure EHCPs are implemented and timescales are met for annual reviews.
To organise and run Pupil Progress Meetings and support ‘Team around the Student’ review meetings and monitor consequent interventions and Therapeutic Plans.
To monitor and ensure high standards of communication with parents/carers and other professionals.
To ensure on-going monitoring of attainment and progress using school-based systems.
To set and monitor progress towards targets.
To ensure strong working relationships within the team and with the wider school.
In conjunction with SLT, monitor and adapt the curriculum where appropriate.
To monitor the planning of learning to ensure the needs of students are met.
To lead on the monitoring of learning within the resource.
To organise and lead moderation activities.
To monitor and support positive/prosocial behaviour and wellbeing.
