About the role
We have a new vacancy for a Shift Leading Process Technician (Mechanical Bias), working in a high performing team at the pulp preparation plants of RCF (white papers) and E Line (Brown papers) at Kemsley Paper Mill. The shift team are responsible for all aspects of the running and output of the two pulp plants which operates a diverse range of paper recycling processes and equipment.
In this role, you will be carrying out process routines and breakdown reaction for the efficient operation of the two processes. This would involve routine housekeeping, cleaning, monitoring and control of all plant equipment and process settings to achieve optimum output rate and pulp quality standards.
Our team-based culture means that you will ensure that plant process parameters are controlled and, where appropriate, remedial action is taken to optimise the process, using your particular skill-set, in conjunction with other team members.
On a shift-by-shift basis you will be expected to ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times and compliance with all company safety procedures and legislation. This involves reporting of any incidents and injuries, involvement with company safety investigations, risk assessments, SSOW (Safe Systems of Work) and developing departmental procedures. Additionally, you will be expected to work in a manner which ensures compliance with the defined quality standards and procedures and our site environmental management system (EMS).
Sustainability is at the heart of DS Smith. RCF shift teams ensure valuable natural resources and raw materials (fibre, chemicals, water, power, steam) are used efficiently in order to reduce D S Smith Paper’s environmental impact and support the Group Now and Next Sustainability Strategy.
The shift pattern for this role is as follows: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off. After 7 cycles of this you will have 18 days off.
Day shifts are 6am- 6pm, and night shifts are 6pm – 6am.
About you:
  • A recognised mechanical based Engineering qualification, minimum requirement is an Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Practical working experience in heavy manufacturing industry, either a day or shift engineering role
  • A strong team player, effective at building relationships, with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Preferably you will be a mechanical craftsman/technician with experience in paper process manufacturing
