Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

We have six regional centres – Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centre. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required, and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.

The Role

Reporting to the OD & Learning Manager, the post holder enhances the ability of managers, work teams and individuals to contribute effectively to the achievement of NHS 24’s business objectives through the design, development and implementation of a range of Learning and Development interventions in the areas of individual development, team development and Development of management capability.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder works at all levels across the organisation. Building and maintaining effective and positive relationships is critical to success in the role. Internally this involves communicating by email and on a face to face basiswith Contact Centre and HQ staff, line managers and internal trainers on the provision of Learning and Development advice and consultancy.

  • To ensure that all development initiatives are robustly evaluated and reported on in order that Learning and Development contributes effectively to the achievement of business objectives
  • To manage NHS 24’s Core Induction and Training Programme for all staff recruited across all NHS 24 sites. This includes working closely with Operations, Central Nursing Team,
    Team, Medical Team and both internal and external trainers, to ensure a robust and effective programme aligned to business requirements.
  • To provide professional advice and guidance to NHS 24 staff across a broad range of Learning and Development activities which enables individual’s role and career development. This includes advice on training structure, training solutions and career development.

Successful Applicant will:

  • Demonstrate developed experience working in a large, complex training environment with demonstrable evidence of success.
  • Be educated to Degree level, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Be a proficient user of IT equipment and software applications.

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 5 £30,229 - £37,664 Per Annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
