Job description

What will you be doing?

Due to our current L&D Specialist retiring we have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our relatively new Learning and Development (L&D) Team.

In this role, as Learning and Development Specialist, you’ll be working with the wider L&D and Talent team to support the diagnosis, design, delivery and evaluation of leadership, team member and mandatory development solutions for our business.

In this varied position, you’ll be developing good working relationships across the whole business, whilst having a special focus on our Funeral Business, with our Funeral Leaders and Funeral HR Partners.

You’re not expected to come with funeral experience or knowledge but to come with the desire to understand our funeral business whilst applying your L&D experience to deliver engaging blended learning to our Team Leaders, including face-to-face, virtual, webinar, coaching and mentoring.

We have over 250 funeral homes, 16 Senior Operational Leaders, 35 Area Managers, 160 Team Leaders, and over 1000 team members delivering memorable funeral services to hundreds of families each week, as an L&D Specialist you will be helping us to continue to develop a culture of Learning and business success.

Remaining up to date with department information, you’ll ensure that training materials remain in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements, the Funeral L&D plan accurately captures and delivers business required L&D solutions and apprenticeship programmes are embedded, supported, and achieve high completion rates.

This is a real opportunity to make a difference and to make a positive impact on our Funeral business as well as our L&D team.

What is in it for me?

This is a hybrid role, typically, working once a week at our Support Centre in Lichfield, and travelling on average once a week to deliver training as and when required. The remainder of the time you will be able to work from home. The working hours are 8.30/9.00am – 5.00/5.30pm , with flexibility to work earlier/later, around business activities and personal responsibilities.

In addition to the competitive salaries available, our colleagues also benefit from:

  • Colleague discount
  • Retail discounts
  • Holiday buy
  • Enhanced family friendly policies
  • Share of the profits for eligible colleagues
  • Colleague recognition
  • Paid time for volunteering
  • Give as you earn
  • Healthcare Cash plan
  • Cycle 2 work
  • Company Pension

How will I know if I am right for this role?

We are looking for someone who can bring previous experience in the design and delivery of training solutions. Ideally, you’ll have experience working in a Learning and Development role in a customer focused business.

You’ll be confident in working with stakeholders to diagnose, design and deliver learning resources as well as the ability to deliver to deadlines.

You will be confident in creating and manipulating reports and data and feel comfortable communicating with people across all areas of our business, including being able to manage relationships with Senior Leaders.

With a problem-solving mind-set you will also need to possess a strong attention to detail.

Previous experience of working in a multi-site environment is desirable as is an understanding of Apprenticeship processes and funding- however, this is not essential.

Budget Management experience is also preferable but not essential as training and support are available.

Who are we?

As a progressive Co-operative Society, we want the people in our communities to thrive, for generations to come. Our people are the energy behind this positive change. We’re looking for like-minded people who want to support our communities and to know the needs of the people who live in them, to help us reach our goal of creating a sustainable society for all.
