Job description

Based at Hawthorn Family Learning Centre, Mayfield you will assist in the provision of day care and support within and out with the Centre. You will focus on the provision of 1:1 care and support for a fun loving young boy who has severe and complex needs. You will work as part of a team responsible for developing independence, learning and inclusion, contribute to the planning and implementation of a balanced, and at times an adapted curriculum to support his individual needs. And support the provision of a caring and stimulating learning environment to enable him to develop and achieve his defined learning intentions. To ensure his learning and development is recorded and shared with his family and the wider multi-agency team.


You will work in partnership with parent and carers and be able to promote Family Learning. Provide a service which offers each child the opportunity to acquire and develop skills appropriate to their age and ability. You will be required to work with children with complex needs, and the focus of our time with one young boy who required 1:1 care.

KNOWLEDGE:

It is essential to have basic literacy and numeracy skills at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.

The jobholder must be familiar with child development and able to respond sensitively to the needs of individual children.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of early years practice, local and national policy, research, legislation and documentation.

The post holder must have a very good understanding of Curriculum for Excellence Early Level, Pre- Birth to Three Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families, Realising the Ambition, HGIOELC and GIRFEC and Care Inspectorate standards and requirements.

The post holder requires an up to date first aid and food hygiene certificate, or be committed to achieving this within 6 months in post.

Once in post the Post holders are required to keep up to date with new guidelines and legislation.

Post holders attend a variety of courses depending on the individual needs of a child e.g. epilepsy training; gastric feeding; baby & toddler first aid training, behaviour management; training for communication problems such as signing; Hannan language programme and 'picture exchange'.

The Jobholder must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment. In order to register you must currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining these qualifications within the first year of registration. Based on you working 34 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £25,671.52 per annum.
