AK Teaching are seeking a number of Learning Support Assistants on a temp basis to join one of our partner SEND schools in the Newton Ayliffe Area. The school supports children aged 4-11 who have been identified as having an additional Social, Emotional or Mental Health Condition such as Autism or ADHD.

A Special Needs Learning Support Assistant (LSA) plays a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs in educational settings. The job description can vary depending on the specific institution and students' requirements, but generally includes the following responsibilities:

Personalized Assistance: Tailor learning activities to suit individual learning styles and abilities, adapting teaching methods to meet the needs of each student.

Behavioural Support: Assist in managing challenging behaviours by implementing strategies outlined in individual education plans or behaviour intervention plans.

Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, special education coordinators, and other professionals to develop and implement strategies that support the academic, social, and emotional development of students.

Personal Care: Provide personal care assistance if required, which might include assisting with feeding, toileting, or mobility, depending on individual needs.

Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians, sharing progress updates and collaborating on strategies to support learning at home.

Promoting Inclusion: Foster an inclusive classroom environment by encouraging understanding, empathy, and acceptance among students without special needs towards their peers who require additional support.

Safety and Welfare: Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.

This role demands patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to meeting the diverse needs of students with varying abilities. LSAs often require some level of training or qualifications in special education or related fields, alongside experience working with individuals with special needs.
