Position: Learning Support Assistant
Location: Central London
Start Date: Immediate
Pay: £90 - £110 depending on experience
About The Role
A SEND college in the heart of Southwark for students aged between 19 - 25 with a primary diagnosis of Autism.
The students come from a wide range of backgrounds, but many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as social anxieties, and communication difficulties.
The work they do is based on life skills to ensure they are able to lead an independent life outside of education.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and educational activities
- Support students with special needs, including those with autism, in their learning and development
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members - Provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to students who require additional support
- Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Assist in managing classroom behaviour and ensuring a safe learning environment
- Assist students with work experience, apply for work and prepare them for interviews
- Assist the students with cooking and cleaning
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with students, preferably in an educational setting
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Knowledge of tutoring techniques and strategies
- Familiarity with working with students with autism or other special needs is a plus
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
