HMP/YOI Portland is a joint male Category C prison and young offender institution. It is dedicated to fostering a safe and educational environment that empowers men to acquire new skills for a successful transition upon release. As well as offering essential skills such as Maths and English, the prison also offers courses in Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating, Carpentry & Joinery, Horticulture and Gym Instruction.
We’re now seeking Lecturers in the following subjects;
Functional Skills – Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week)
Reading – Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2025, Full Time (37 hours per week)
Developing a positive learner experience on all courses, you’ll complete all relevant administration work relating to your sessions, such as lesson planning, registers, learner enrolment and marking. You’ll enrich learning through additional projects and actively market and promote Prison Education and recruit learners to courses.
About you
Hold a degree or relevant professional qualification, which is appropriate to the role.
Have previous teaching experience.
Have knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies.
Have excellent team working, communication and interpersonal skills.
Be computer literate, including an up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Be highly motivated and set high standards for self and others.
Be experienced in providing extra support to learners with LDD needs (desirable).
We’d also like you to possess a recognised teaching qualification or be prepared to achieve one (with the assistance of Weston College) within the first two years of employment.
