For almost 200 years, UCL Laws has been one of the leading centres of legal education in the world. Recognised as offering an outstanding educational experience to our students, we combine a strong theoretical foundation in the law with practical teaching from world-leading academics and practitioners.

About the role

UCL Faculty of Laws is looking to appoint as Lecturer in Law (1 or more posts) outstanding candidates with research interests and teaching expertise who will contribute to the Faculty’s development and advancement of Corporate Insolvency and / or Commercial law. Expertise in international trade law and / or corporate restructuring will be an advantage, and applications from colleagues who also have expertise in German Law most welcome.

About you

The UCL Academic Career Framework sets out four ‘domains’ of activity for teaching and research posts (Research; Education; Enterprise and External Engagement; and Institutional Citizenship). Appointments to a Lecturer in Law post are expected to make a balanced contribution across all four domains.
In the context of Research, applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have the ability and potential to produce internationally-excellent independent, original, significant, and rigorous research contributions in the relevant field. Applicants also need to demonstrate evidence of successful participation in high-quality Education (i.e. teaching) activity in relevant subject areas with students at any level.
In respect of Enterprise and External Engagement, Lecturer applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to make significant contributions to the promotion of research impact, and/or to evidence the ability to significantly or substantially engage with decision-makers and senior advisers in industry, the public sector, civil society, media or other relevant stakeholders and organisations outside of academia.
Finally, in respect of Institutional Citizenship, Lecturer (Grade 8) applicants should be able to demonstrate their commitment to making an effective personal contribution to the administration of a University department or other administrative unit. Applicants should possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, a strong sense of teamwork, the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds, and a demonstrable commitment to UCL’s equal opportunity policy.
