Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Lecturer, Creative Technologist and Steam thinker, to become a part of our cutting-edge, future-focused BA Art and Design with Creative Technologies course.

Situated within the School of Art, this new course started with its first cohort in September 2022, and the role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and teaching of the course, while also shaping the Creative Technologies pathway.

You will be working in a highly collaborative environment, with an interdisciplinary staff team who have diverse skill sets. As well as contributing to the design and teaching delivery of modules, you will design and lead Creative Technologies workshops which will embrace a diverse digital practice, and may include: digital visuals, digital sound, creative coding, physical computing, extended reality, user experience, games art, digital media production as well as emerging forms of digital arts that extends traditional practice into new areas

Essential skills:

  • A diverse digital portfolio which demonstrates a strong practical skillset. For example, this may include: creative coding; physical computing; extended realities; digital media production. An in-depth understanding of interdisciplinary digital arts including recent developments in the field.
  • Experience and success in developing new approaches to learning and teaching methods.
  • Experience in applying a creative approach to designing and delivering educational workshops at various levels. This might include: foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, and interdisciplinary contexts.
  • A versatile approach and ability to collaborate with both academic and industry professionals.
  • Master's level qualification or equivalent.

Desirable skills:

  • As well as a background in Creative Technologies, you may also have practical making skills, with a knowledge of materials and processes.
  • An active practice, research and/or knowledge exchange profile that will inform your teaching.
  • A Phd qualification or equivalent professional experience.
