Job details

In the School of Law and Policing we commit to provide for our law, policing, criminology, archaeology, forensic science and public services students, drawn from the UK and overseas, a learning experience which is stimulating, challenging, high quality and research informed. The School offers a full suite of undergraduate, masters and research degrees as well as professional postgraduate training, apprenticeships and executive education and training. We have a network of high-quality partnerships in the UK and overseas and run a number of externally funded research and knowledge transfer projects.

The School has a friendly, supportive and engaged staff base with a shared vision for excellence. With more than 150 successful, well qualified and culturally diverse academic staff, we are now looking to enhance our law expertise through the appointment of a lecturer. The post holder will contribute broadly to the School’s wide portfolio of taught law courses, supervise postgraduate research students and actively engage in either research, innovation or income generating activities. Utilising excellent communication and presentation skills the successful applicant will demonstrate a flexible and innovative approach to teaching and learning and be able to teach/supervise dissertations up to postgraduate level.

For this position the School are looking in particular, for individuals with experience in practice as either a solicitor or barrister, who can contribute to and have the ability to teach across a range of professional law modules for the purposes of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). We will consider all applications but are particularly interested in those who could teach the following legal practice focused subjects: Business Law, Property Law or Wills & Probate. The successful applicant will also be required to teach on the undergraduate law programme across foundational law subjects, amongst others.

The successful applicant should hold a good honours degree (or equivalent) in Law and hold a postgraduate professional legal qualification as a solicitor or barrister, with relevant work experience. Ideally applicants will hold a teaching qualification or demonstrate willingness to undertake such a qualification. A willingness to participate with the School’s Advice and Resolution Centre and / or executive education & training and / or knowledge transfer work is essential.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston. Requests for flexible working or shared roles may be possible.
