Job description

Location:  Highfield Campus Reference:  As part of an exciting expansion of research and education activity in Health Sciences we are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing. You will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse active on the NMC register and will join the Mental Health Nursing Team in the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at the University of Southampton. The team is experienced, friendly, and supportive and is enthusiastic and committed to developing the Nurses of the future who can innovate and lead change.  You will be involved in the delivery of our pre-registration BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing, Masters of Nursing leading to registration as an Mental Health/Adult Nurse or Mental Health/Children’s Nurse, and MSc/PgDip Mental Health Nursing programmes. You will have an exceptional understanding of issues facing contemporary nursing practice. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for outstanding nurse education and has a dynamic vision for how education and research can transform health care.  You will facilitate teaching, learning and assessment, provide academic guidance to students, and support practice assessors and supervisors. You will have a commitment to excellence in the development of future Mental Health Nurses. You will be challenging, innovative and creative, using these skills to further advance the delivery of the programme, and to further enhance our national and international reputation as a centre of excellence for nurse education. You will have the opportunity to work with highly experienced academics to support your own ongoing development.  The Lecturer post is a balanced portfolio, education and research, therefore, ideally, you will have considerable experience of working in a higher education institution and will have been involved in the delivery of a Mental Health Nursing programme. However, we are also keen to hear from you if you are an experienced clinician, working clinically but with proven educational skills and experience. You will need to have a good knowledge of research, and ideally have a PhD, or be close to completing a PhD.
