Job description

Campus: Strand Job description The Department of Music seeks to hire a Lecturer (Grade 6 or 7) specialising in the field of music or sonic arts in Europe (inclusive of the British Isles) since 1900. The post holder will contribute to the excellent research profile of the Department, while also engaging in research-led teaching, academic leadership, and pastoral support across our BMus, MMus and PhD degrees. We seek applicants who have a clear track record (appropriate to their career stage) as emerging global research leaders, and who will contribute to our goals of delivering innovative, inclusive, diverse, and socially-engaged education. Applicants whose specialisms are in key areas of global concern or at the cutting edge of their discipline/s are particularly encouraged to apply, including (but not restricted to) music of Black or Global Majority diasporas, environmental humanities, medical humanities, sound studies, history of the emotions, cultural heritage or policy, synergies with other arts/film, digital cultures, etc. Please note that we are not looking to hire someone who is primarily a composer at this time. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Music or a related humanities or social sciences discipline, and publications appropriate to their career stage. They must be capable of delivering core humanities teaching and assessment in the area of 20–21C art and/or popular music broadly defined, as well as having teaching experience in their own specialist area/s. They will be a highly effective educator, with experience of both face-to-face and online teaching and assessment in Higher Education, a commitment to student learning and welfare, and an aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary and inclusive framework. An appointment at Level 7 will require the post-holder to already have a teaching qualification, such as Fellowship of the HEA or equivalent; previous experience in curriculum development; and a track record of grant income. Contract Type This post will be offered on an indefinite contract This is a full-time post, due to commence 1st September 2024. Key responsibilities Plan, organise and deliver outstanding teaching and assessment across our Programmes. At Grade 7, play a leading role in curriculum development, designing and delivering new modules where required. Contribute fully to developing and enhancing the research profile of the Department, Faculty and College through publications and other forms of output, which may include public-facing impact activities. Provide high quality supervision of BMus and MMus dissertations, and PhD theses where required. Assess coursework and examinations as required, including performance examinations. Contribute to the welfare of students through the personal tutor system. Fulfil administrative tasks as directed by the Head of Department.
