Job description

As part of an exciting expansion of research and education capacity in Health Sciences we are looking to recruit an experienced physiotherapist with Higher Education experience, registered with the HCPC and a member of the CSP, to join the Allied Health Professions Department in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton. You will help us deliver our highly valued pre-registration BSc and MSc Physiotherapy programmes. The full-time post is a permanent position subject to a 2-year probationary period, and we will consider part-time and clinical academic appointments. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for high-quality physiotherapy education, who has a strong vision for how education and research can transform health care. You will have an appreciation of issues facing contemporary clinical practice, higher education, and health services nationally. This Lecturer role is a balanced portfolio (research and education), and you will have a track record of successful research grant applications and high-quality journal publications (as commensurate with the job description attached) to evidence a meaningful contribution to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). You will have a PhD and clinical experience in Physiotherapy. If this is you, we would be pleased to hear from you. The University of Southampton is one of the top 100 universities in the world. We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities. All aspects of the School’s research environment were judged (REF 2021) to be conducive to producing world-leading research and enabling outstanding impact, with 93% of the research outputs and all research impact case studies judged to be internationally excellent or world-leading quality.  Our high quality clinical academic programme, together with our interdisciplinary research collaborations have resulted in outstanding research that addresses issues of high relevance to health service users, providers and commissioners. The Physiotherapy undergraduate programmes at Southampton have consistently been ranked among the top in the UK (ranked first 3 times in the past 5 years). It is a friendly and positive place to work. You will join a highly collegiate and professional team who are keen to share expertise, provide mentorship, and support professional development.  We believe equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to making the University of Southampton a welcoming, vibrant and successful organisation. Having a diverse workforce, inclusive of people of all ages and beliefs, from different racial, educational and social backgrounds opens up a wealth of possibilities, makes us more creative and accelerates our impact on society. We welcome applicants that value the diversity of our community and are willing to play their part in supporting the mission of inclusivity.  The School of Health Sciences is open to a flexible working approach. With an understanding that there is a need to be on campus for academic duties, we are open to a hybrid approach. Full consideration will be given to applicants that wish to work flexibly and those who have had career breaks. The University of Southampton is proud to be a founding signatory of the Athena Swan gender equality charter and holds a Silver award.  For additional information/informal enquiries before submitting your application, contact Dr Ruth Turk, Programme Manager (r.turk@soton.ac.uk).
