Job description

Purpose

The Department of Economics welcomes applications for a position of either Lecturer or Associate Professor to contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and to the research environment of the Department and wider university. The role is based on the Whiteknights campus; applicants will be expected to work on campus a few days a week.

At Lecturer level, we are looking for some teaching experience and an emerging track record of publishing in any area of economics.

At the Associate Professor level, we are looking for teaching experience as module leader, an exceptional track record of publishing in any area of economics, ability to obtain external research funding and/or potential for non-academic impact, and some experience with administrative tasks.

The Department

The Department of Economics is part of the School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (SPPE). The School and the Department have an established reputation for inter-disciplinary research, and members are collaborating with colleagues from schools across the university. Main duties and responsibilities

The post-holders will be expected to:

  • Carry out excellent research with potential for non-academic impact, publish in international journals, attract research fundings, join one of the Departments clusters and one of the Universitys Research Divisions, present at internal and external events.
  • Convene modules on the Departments undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, develop and apply effective teaching methods, materials, and assessment techniques, while being conscious of culture, equality and diversity.
  • Support and encourage students academic, personal and professional development, particularly through the Academic Tutor role.
  • Become Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
  • Undertake some administrative/outreach/widening participation duties within the School.
  • Supervise student dissertations and research projects, including at PhD level.
