Job description

Are you an Animator, passionate about passing on your knowledge to students? Are you looking for a challenging role in an environment that is open, vibrant and welcomes new ideas? Then join UEL as Lecturer in Animation and you could soon be developing and delivering high quality, innovative and engaging teaching.

At UEL we know the world of work is changing and that means our students will need to develop critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and resilience to realise their potential, which is why we’ve embedded these future-proofed tools at the heart of every one of our degrees. We’re also looking for outstanding teachers who exude a love of teaching, inspire, and motivate students and colleagues through their approach and are committed to achieving excellent outcomes for students.

The BA (Hons) Animation course at UEL is a practice-based course that focuses on 2D digital animation. This role would be ideal for a candidate looking to build an academic career alongside their own animation practice. Ideally you will have experience of teaching at degree level, taking responsibility for managing the effective learning of the students, including setting, supervising, and assessing work. You will also be able to contribute to the development of the course curriculum and undertake a range of tutorial and pastoral responsibilities. We are particularly looking for academics that have demonstrable knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Animation Principles,
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Animate, Photoshop, AfterEffects) and TVpaint/CelAction,
  • Pre-production, production, and post-production processes/pipeline for 2D Animation.

You will also have an interest in discourse surrounding animation practice. The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in Animation or a related discipline, and/or significant professional experience in Animation. You should be able to work as part of a team, have excellent organisational and administrative skills and demonstrate a commitment to a student-centred approach to teaching and learning.

Adept at conveying ideas to students from a range of backgrounds, you will also bring a deep commitment to closing the award gap, gender equality, and LGBTQIA awareness/visibility/empowerment. You will also enjoy developing professional relationships with students, colleagues, employers, and outside agencies alike.

At UEL, we aim to attract and retain the best possible staff and offer a working environment at the heart of a dynamic region with excellent transport links. You can look forward to a warm, sincere welcome, genuine camaraderie and mobility in an institution led with passion, visibility, and purpose. Your impact, resilience and sense of collegiality will directly contribute to UEL’s future and those of the students whose lives you will touch and change forever.

We also offer a great range of benefits including pension, family friendly policies and an on-site nursery and gym at our Docklands Campus.

If you have a specific question about the role, please email Dekan Apajee, Head of Media Department, D.Apajee@uel.ac.uk
