Are you on the Operations Management / Supply Chain Management / Project Management academic job market this year?

The School of Management at the University of Bath is inviting applications to the positions of Lecturer/Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer/Associate Professorto work within the Information, Decisions and Operations (IDO) Division.

The IDO Division consists of around 35 faculty with diverse research portfolios, ranging from empirical OM / SCM / PM (see for example Jens Roehrich), OR / MS / Analytics (see for example Maria Battarra), and IS / cyber security (see for example, Adam Joinson). For a look at the kind of work we do, see the IDO website, Centre for Smart Warehousing and Logistics Systems, Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats, and Centre for Healthcare Innovation and Improvement.

Bath School of Management is one of the highest-ranking management schools in Europe in terms of both its research and education. Research support includes funding for conference attendance, data collection and research visits; a dedicated grant support team; and generous research allowances within our workload.

The IDO Division has excellent industry and academic networks which support a thriving and highly collegiate environment. Our probation system offers Lecturers/Assistant Professors the possibility to obtain tenure after three years. Requirements for tenure (and promotion) focus on the quality of research outputs and teaching delivery, and are comparable to other top business schools.

For this post, we are particularly keen to recruit empirical Operation Management, Supply Chain Management, or Project Management scholars. Importantly, within this empirical umbrella, we welcome a wide variety of research methodologies. Furthermore, we also place value on researchers that engage in significant, real-world, business, and social challenges. This may include foci on, for example, the role of technology in supply chains, identifying and managing scope 3 emissions/NetZero, managing public-private relationships and the governance of large projects to drive economic, sustainable and social benefits.

We will appoint at the appropriate spine point in grade 8 or 9 depending on appointment to the role of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will take up role in September 2024.

In addition to the research role, you will contribute to our range of highly rated undergraduate and postgraduate offerings. The Division’s teaching portfolio includes specialist MSc programmes in Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Business Analytics; Innovation and Technology Management; and Engineering and Business Management, as well as more general management undergraduate and MBA programmes. As we grow our portfolio of on-line delivery, we are also interested in candidates who have experience in designing and delivering via digital channels.

Applications must include:

  • Academic CV;
  • Research statement – this should describe your current and future research aspirations, your publication strategy, and links to impact;
  • Teaching statement – this should describe your approach to teaching, your teaching experience, and a sample of student scores/feedback.

Applicants are encouraged to make informal enquiries regarding the posts to Melih Celik, Associate Professor and Subject Group Lead (mc2498@bath.ac.uk), Joanne Hinds, Associate Professor of Information Systems and Subject Group Lead (jh945@bath.ac.uk), Jens Roehrich, Professor of Supply Chain Innovation (jr235@bath.ac.uk), or Alistair Brandon-Jones, Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management and Head of the Information, Decisions and Operations Division (abj20@bath.ac.uk)
