Faculty / Directorate English Literature is part of the School of Humanities and Performing Arts, which sits within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. The School is home to the creative disciplines and humanities subjects, and has 1200 students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The English Literature team at DMU is proud of its commitment to excellence in teaching and its outstanding research profile: English was the highest-ranking subject by GPA at DMU in REF2021. Role The School of Humanities and Performing Arts wishes to appoint a full-time, permanent Lecturer in English Literature to contribute to teaching on our undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes in English. The successful candidate will be required to contribute to module development and administration, and to carry out other duties consistent with the post, such as supervising dissertation projects, acting as personal tutor to students, participating in Open Days, and attending relevant subject, school, and faculty meetings. Ideal Candidate We are in search of an individual with a degree in English Literature or a relevant cognate discipline. The ideal candidate should hold a completed or near-completed PhD in a relevant subject and possess substantial experience in teaching English within Higher Education. As a successful candidate, you will be more than an educator – you will be an active researcher, poised to make a substantial contribution to the research profile of the English team. Desired Qualifications and Experience: Degree in English Literature or a relevant cognate discipline. Completed or near-completed PhD in a relevant subject. Experience in teaching English within Higher Education. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the research profile of the English team. Research interests and teaching experience in Literary Adaptations and/or Contemporary Literature are advantageous.
