Job description

About the School and RoleThe School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an outstanding researcher and teacher to a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Operations Management position. The School’s Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics (BAAE) welcomes applications from scholars focused on quantitative research in data science, economics, Operations Management, and operations research. In this age of digital innovation and technological, economic and environmental change, SBM prepares undergraduate and postgraduate students to engage with change and help build a better future. This post offers an opportunity to shape the school’s intellectual agenda in Operations Management in a rapidly growing, distinctive management School. The role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Operations Management in the Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics (BAAE) includes both teaching and research objectives: (i) to make important research contributions to the field; (ii) to advance the research subject through publications; (iii) to deliver quality teaching including making innovations in key aspects of teaching and learning; (iv) to contribute to the administration of the Department/School; (v) to maximize opportunities for public engagement in the subject. About YouCandidates will have completed a PhD and need to demonstrate the capacity to conduct research and publish at an internationally excellent level. Applicants will be expected to show how their research interests complement those within the Department and the School, and how they can contribute to the development of teaching of quantitative topics within our postgraduate and undergraduate programmes where we use Python and R (or Stata) for data-intensive modules. Whilst we welcome applications from all areas of the discipline, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in (but are not limited to) Operations Research, Game Theory, Business Analytics, and Data Science with applications in inventory modelling, supply chain management, production planning and control, service operations, sustainability, revenue management, and risk management. The School is strongly committed to the development of all its staff, and we will ensure that the successful candidate has the opportunity to develop their teaching, research and administrative skills. How to ApplyYour application should include: a focused CV of no more than five pages, to include up to one page of evidence of teaching quality (for example recent evaluations and teaching awards or other recognition), a brief (1-2 page) outline of your research plans for the next three years. Your application should make clear whether you are applying for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position. You will only be considered for the post you explicitly apply for. Please do not send research papers or certificates with your application as these will be requested at a later stage in the process. Applications that do not follow these requirements may be rejected. As part of the selection process, you will be asked to present to members of the Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics (BAAE) on your research and teaching. Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly. We particularly encourage applications from women and LGBTQ+, Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic applicants who are currently under-represented in the School at this level.
