About us

UCL Earth Sciences is one of the oldest centres for earth and planetary sciences in the UK and is housed in the refurbished Kathleen Lonsdale Building (inaugurated by Sir David Attenborough in April 2018). The completion of this £28M project means that we now offer staff and students opportunities to work in modern research labs and teaching facilities, including state-of-the-art cold-room experimental ice deformation laboratories. UCL Earth Sciences has a student body comprising over 250 undergraduates, 60 taught graduate students and 45 research students. The Department has some 40 academic staff, visiting professors, and other visiting academic staff. About the role

We are offering a full-time permanent Lectureship in any area Earth Sciences that complements and/or extends our existing strengths. The successful candidates will be expected to pursue research of international quality that enhances, complements and/or extends current activity in the Department of Earth Sciences, and to provide academic leadership in the development of their subject area. It is also expected that the post-holder will contribute to all aspects of the academic life of the Department and College including teaching and enabling.

About you

Candidates will have extensive knowledge and expertise in an area of Earth, Environmental or Planetary Sciences at a level appropriate for the conduct of research, publishing new knowledge in leading international research journals, and teaching undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses. A PhD, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate discipline (must have been awarded by the time of submission of the application for the posts), is essential as is a proven record of ability to conduct significant and novel research reflected in the authorship of high-quality publications and/or other research outputs. Experience of research and teaching (or other relevant employment) in Earth, Environmental or Planetary Sciences is also essential. Experience of student assessment, curriculum design, and module development: for example, proven ability to teach at undergraduate or postgraduate level as evidenced by responsibility for preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials or laboratory demonstrations is desirable.
