Position: Legal Counsel
Department: Group Legal, McCarthy Stone
Location: Bournemouth, with remote work flexibility

Our Group Legal department is instrumental in supporting our business objectives and ensuring legal compliance. We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our team as Legal Counsel.

Primary Job Purpose: As Legal Counsel at McCarthy Stone, you will play a key role in delivering legal services across our Group, with a focus on commercial contracts, strategic projects, disputes and litigation, construction matters, property estate management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispute Resolution and Litigation: Manage disputes and litigation efficiently, coordinating with various internal stakeholders and external counsel where required.
  • Group contracting: To advise on, draft, negotiate and educate the Group on a variety of commercial contracts in line with the Group’s contracting policy and risk framework.
  • Regulatory / Legislative Compliance: Assist in ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, updating policies, and providing advice on regulatory matters.
  • Estate Management: Liaise with the wider legal team to help advise on all legal queries that arise via the property management team.
  • Sales & Marketing: Provide legal guidance on advertising, marketing campaigns, promotions, and agency contracts to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • External Firms: Coordinate matters within the Legal Department, liaise with external legal providers, and monitor outsourced legal costs.

Supervisory Responsibilities: You will provide guidance and supervision to junior staff members, contributing to their professional development.

Relationships: Internally, you will collaborate with employees across McCarthy Stone, while externally, you will engage with solicitors, regulatory bodies, and other professionals.

Conditions of Work:

  • The role involves a blend of office-based and remote work, with occasional travel to Divisional offices and sites.
  • Flexible working hours may be required to meet business needs.

Experience & Education:

  • 2 - 6 years of post-qualified experience as a solicitor or chartered legal executive.
  • Experience in an in-house legal department is preferred.
