We are looking for someone who has a passion, thirst and commitment to the hair industry, who wants to learn everything needed to become a successful hairdresser!

About the Role:

As a Hair Apprentice with us, you will gain valuable skills to support you in starting out your journey in hair. You will gain salon experience, as well as complete your Level 2 Hair Qualification with a certified training provider. We encourage learning on real hair and real people, and so regularly hold in house training sessions with models so that you can develop at a fast pace and start to build up your own client base ready for when you qualify.

The Apprentice role is varied and high energy, involving assisting with the upkeep of the salon to ensure the environment is clean, safe and operational, involving daily opening and close downs, as well as looking after clients, carrying out hairdressing services and assisting the styling team with their clients. You will develop valuable practical experience by working in a salon environment and being exposed to a high standard of professional hairdressing on a day to day basis.

This allows you to see what it will be like to work in a busy salon, shadowing our stylists in managing their columns, clients and day to day tasks. You will also work alongside our junior team, to understand the basics of running a salon and developing your confidence with clients. You will also work alongside our Business Support Team, to learn about the brand and business processes, so that you can be successful in managing and overseeing your future clients as a JamesB Stylist! You will learn the importance of updating client notes, thorough consultation, taking great before and after pictures, and engaging with clients before, during and after their appointment with us.

We are a gender neutral, judgement free, and established salon located in the heart of the Bedminster Community: We have a large client base, as well as a waiting list for services, and so are now looking to expand our team to meet the demand! Our team provide our guests with excellent hairdressing services, as well as promoting healthy hair by using the science and knowledge to ensure that clients’ hair excels in our care.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is organised, positive, with a can-do attitude, and a team player, who wants to be part of something different to your standard salon. You will have a good understanding of what is expected - The start of your hair career does involve lots of basic level training, cleaning and building on that; you will need to have a good level of patience and understanding that you will not jump straight to cutting and colouring hair, and appreciate that this takes time, but we will help you to get there! We want to support you to become a confident, established and successful hair stylist, which involves knowing every process including folding towels and cleaning!

Our ideal candidate would be your true creative self, whether you are alternative, introverted, extroverted, love pizza or hate cheese! We can help craft your skills, but your personality is what will shine through! You will be willing and open to learning from those around you, as well as an absolute passion for hair and a thirst for a career in the hair industry.

Hours and Pay:

You will be expected in college every Monday (term time) as part of your employment/apprenticeship. You will also be rostered to work in the salon every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and then either a Wednesday OR a Thursday: The salon is open from 8am to 8pm, and the hours vary from 8-4pm, 10-6pm, 12-8pm. This role takes commitment, and outside of these hours, you will be expected to record off the job learning on your online college portal, as well as practising and watching training videos to develop your knowledge.

This is a Fixed Term Apprenticeship Contract, which means that you are employed by us while you complete the Level 2 Qualification: The allowance for this is 24 months, but can be completed quicker depending on your commitment and dedication to the learning and role - The minimum time required is 12 months. Once you have completed your Level 2, you have the option to apply to stay with us as a Hair Stylist, or leave to new horizons!

You will benefit from holiday and sick pay, 28 days paid holiday pro-rata, as well as emotional and wellbeing support through our Employee Assistance Programme. You will also receive discounted products and complimentary hair services for yourself, which is available upon successful probation period.

You will start on the national minimum wage for apprentices, which increases to the minimum wage for your age after your first year, regardless of where you are in your Apprenticeship training. You also have the potential to receive a weekly commission payment on any retail products or upgrade services sold.
