Job description

At The Fairy Tails K9 Centre, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Level 2/3 Animal Management Apprentice. As an apprentice, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop essential skills in Animal Management, working under the guidance of experienced professionals. This apprenticeship is an ideal starting point for anyone looking to build a rewarding career in the animal care industry.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily care and supervision of dogs in the daycare facility.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all dogs under your care.
  • Assist with feeding, watering, and administering medications as directed by senior staff.
  • Assist with dog walking.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the facility, including cleaning up after dogs and maintaining a hygienic environment.
  • Assist with basic dog grooming tasks such as bathing and brushing.
  • Learn and follow all company policies and procedures related to animal care and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and pet owners to provide updates on the dogs' behaviour, health, and overall well-being.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for both animals and humans.

Requirements

Willing to learn, have excellent patience and a desire to provide the best care to all dogs that come into our K9 centre.

Genuine passion for working with dogs and a desire to pursue a career in the dog care industry.

Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact with pet owners in a friendly and professional manner.

Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments with patience, care, and confidence.

Physical fitness and stamina to be on your feet for extended periods, control dogs, and perform dog care tasks that require manual dexterity.

Any prior experience or formal education in animal care is beneficial to your application but not mandatory, as all relevant training will be given throughout the duration of the course.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will study Level 2 Animal Management with KEITS (Keeping Excellence In Training Standards).

PLEASE NOTE: If you have already gained Level 2 Animal Management, we can offer an apprenticeship on Level 3 Animal Management.

Working Pattern

Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week (flexible patterns between the hours of 08:00 - 17:30).

The apprenticeship will last around 12 months, with the possibility of employment with us once the course is completed (managers discretion).

Wage

Starting rate of £5.28 per hour (apprenticeship wage), which will be reviewed quarterly with the opportunity of increasing according to skills gained and reliability.
