About the role:
You will be a key player in a multi-disciplinary team delivering the full range of statutory licensing functions across the County. The work will be varied and includes taxis, alcohol and entertainment, gambling, caravan, residential home sites and scrap metal etc. You will be involved with processing applications from receipt to issue, including preparing and presenting reports to sub-committee, attending court, interpreting and applying relevant legislation and guidance and undertaking investigations or enforcement as appropriate.
About you:
Ideally you will bring with you knowledge and experience of the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005 and some or all of the other licensing functions provided by the service.
You will be organised, accurate and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.
You may have an appropriate professional qualification or experience in a related field.
You will be adaptable and organised with an eye for detail and capable of working under pressure. You must be willing to carry out duties at flexible times including occasional evenings/ weekends.
Officers should ideally have previous experience of working in a local authority environment and have knowledge of local authority licensing functions and experience of working in a statutory / regulatory role.
What you will do:
- Process applications, undertake routine inspections and respond to complaints and enquiries relating to licensable activities and support other officers in the team with this work.
- Work closely with other Council departments, government agencies, external partners and members of the public.
- Produce and present reports to Council hearings/review panels regarding new application or to consider the status of existing licence holders.
- Apply relevant legislation and guidance and undertake investigations or enforcement as appropriate.
