About the role

We are really excited to be looking for an Underwriter to join our fantastic established team on a permanent basis.

You'll report directly to our team based in Exeter, but we would love to hear from experienced Underwriters who are comfortable working from home. We offer remote working as well as working from our Exeter office or our other location in Bournemouth. Some visits to Exeter may be necessary for key events and training.

You’ll be part of a wider team and have all the support you need, so whether you’re on the doorstep of the office or a bit further away, let’s talk about what an opportunity here could look like for you.

About You

We're keen to hear from experienced Underwriters with a background covering Life, Critical Illness and Income Protection. You will have gained this experience in a similar role and be looking for a new challenge to further develop your skills and experience. If you have proven experience in underwriting large cases with high sums assured, we would be very keen to hear from you.

You’ll be expected to work on your own initiative as well as within a team. You will have excellent organisational skills in-order to balance personal and team priorities. You’ll be someone that builds great team relationships and be willing to help and support your colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing and accepting/declining applications for life, critical illness, and disability insurance, in accordance with philosophy
  • Communicating with customers to gather further information where required
  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in Underwriting and medical/financial advancements
  • Working as part of a team to review the department’s processes and procedures
  • Working towards targets and delivering outcomes of the highest quality for our customers
  • Complying with all regulatory and statutory standards and controls.
  • Supporting the development of junior team members

Key skills & experience

  • Have a genuine passion for underwriting bringing experience from Life, Critical Illness, Income Protection / Medical Underwriting
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Strategic thinking
  • Have the drive to develop and grow within the role
  • Evidenced completion of CII is desirable
  • Proven experience in underwriting large cases/high sums assured is desirable
