Join our dynamic team as a Linux Systems Administrator and immerse yourself in the exciting world of server operations! This role is known as Core Platform Engineer here at toob and you will be operating within a diverse environment of Windows and Linux servers where you'll take the reins on our Ubuntu and CentOS domains.

The role accountabilities:

  • To support the development, test, and production Linux environments
  • Installation and configuration of new Linux Systems
  • Participating in new software/system updates throughout the release cycle
  • Performing system maintenance to ensure optimal performance of all applications and databases in accordance with best practices
  • Conducting and testing system backups
  • Monitoring system performance and making necessary adjustments for optimisation
  • Ensuring system security by identifying and remediating vulnerabilities and understanding attack vectors
  • Providing out-of-hours emergency support as part of an on-call rota.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • ​​Good proficiency with Linux servers, including command line experience (Ubuntu / CentOS) for installation, management, and troubleshooting
  • A+, Network+, and Linux+ Certifications are essential
  • An understanding of networks and ability to troubleshoot network issues
  • Familiarity with backup, restore, and recovery procedures
  • Experience in database setup and basic administration, preferably with MongoDB, MySQL & PostgreSQL
  • Webserver administration skills
  • A track record of writing bash scripts for break-fix, monitoring, and process automation
  • Knowledge of Linux Patch & Vulnerability Management
  • Familiarity with Alert Management & Monitoring Technologies (including Availability, Capacity & Performance)
  • Understanding of IT security best practices, including Firewalls, Pen-tests, and TLS certs
  • Knowledge of ITIL principles, including change management and ticket management (Incidents / Service Requests)
  • Proficiency in using Knowledge Base and Documentation systems
  • Experience with Customer Facing DNS Service
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within IT
  • Strong research and troubleshooting abilities
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively
  • Live within commutable distance to our Portsmouth HQ
  • Be willing to work on call every other week
  • Must have the right to work in the UK without restrictions.
