Job overview
The post holder will provide psychiatric and physical healthcare input to St Raphael ward, which is 17 bed unit providing inpatient care for older men with functional mental illness. Patients are usually age 65 plus but may be younger dependent on factors such as frailty.
The post holder will form part of an experienced Multi Disciplinary Team which includes a consultant psychiatrist, senior nurse practitioner, psychologist and OT. The post will give exposure to a broad range of mental health diagnoses and presentations, as well s offering opportunities for joint working with community services and external partners as well as family- carers.
The Liaison component of the post will involve gaining experience in the assessment and management of acutely psychiatrically ill patients attending ED as well as patients in the Conquest Hospital acute medical wards with mental illness, under consultant supervision.

  • Arranging appropriate referral to other disciplines

Learning opportunities are available to work with the more complex and challenging cases, including treatment resistance, comorbid personality disorders and high risk patients.
  • Active in-house teaching under the supervision of college tutor which includes case presentations, critical review of papers and audit presentations.
  • Attendance at in-house postgraduate teaching is essential (Wednesday p.m.)
  • Weekly supervision with supervisor.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)
