ICHT is currently one of the three centres providing MRgFUS service in the UK. We are looking for a full-time position to work in the Surgical Movement Disorders team supporting the Functional neurosurgery service. The post is at Consultant level, and it is aimed at a candidate with experience in (1) independently performing both MRgFUS and DBS procedures, and (2) independently assessing and managing patients with Essential Tremor (ET), Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Dystonic conditions, both before and after the respective surgical procedures. Obviously, the post involves very close working with colleagues in Movement Disorders Neurology.
The neurosurgical aspect of the service inputs to the care of patients affected by Movements Disorders at an advanced stage of severity where surgical intervention is a reasonable option (always discussed in respective MRgFUS and DBS MDT meetings). This includes both inpatient and outpatient settings at CXH and SMH. On the SMH site, there is currently one MRgFUS procedure per week. The appointee is expected to undertake additional MRgFUS procedures on a weekly basis, once in post.
The successful applicant will work with a locum consultant neurologist, and an established Consultant Neurosurgeon and Consultant Neurologists, along with the multi-professional workforce, to provide expertise and deliver a comprehensive movement disorder service
