The Company

We are excited to assist a market leading electronics manufacturer, based near Tamworth, in finding a Logistics Director to join their family owned, £100m turnover business. They already have a very well ran operation and are seeking somebody who can provide guidance for the future.

The Role - Logistics Director

The new Logistics Director will be responsible for leading the business’ logistics & supply chain strategy. This is a critical role in driving productivity from the ground up, optimising the existing systems and planning for the future. You will be the standard-bearer for operational excellence, while delivering actionable insights to the Board. You have a 250,000sqft site and several satellite operations.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Strategic planning of the operation collaborating closely with the Board of Directors to formulate and translate the logistics vision and strategy.
  • Proactively identify future opportunities and challenges within the warehouse and logistics landscape and develop effective mitigation strategies when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation, and actively contributing to the implementation of proposed solutions. Monitoring and evaluating the performance of transportation and logistics service providers, holding them accountable for agreed-upon service levels.
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as procurement, sales, and customer service, to align logistics strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Management Office, working in tandem to smoothly transition warehouse operations from traditional paper-based processes to advanced digital platforms.
  • Develop comprehensive phased roll-out strategies for the successful implementation of Warehouse Management Systems across multiple locations.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with IT, operations, customer service, quality, compliance, health and safety, and external vendors to guarantee the successful deployment of the WMS, while ensuring effective Stakeholder Management.
  • Possess expert troubleshooting skills to resolve challenges that may arise during the WMS implementation phase.

The Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate for the role of Logistics Director will be able to demonstrate the following on their CV:

  • Several years of recent employment as Operations Director, Logistics Director, or similar board level position.
  • Have recently managed a stockist, or high SKU manufacturing operation clearly demonstrated on their CV.
  • Highly developed Leadership skills, the ability to engage people at all levels and all departments.
  • Project Management experience, with a high knowledge in systems and data analysis.
  • Up to date knowledge of best practice in the industry.
  • MBA or MSC in Supply Chain Management and Logistics is advantageous.
  • Six Sigma qualification advantageous
  • Daily commutable to Tamworth
