LV Jointers Mate

Working Pattern: 40 hrs per week

Location: Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire NG22

Via is currently looking for a LV Jointers Mate to join our Electrical Team based at our Head Office in Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire.

You will assist the Jointer in order to carry out new connections, transfers and disconnections on any Distribution Network Operator’s (DNO) Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNO) low voltage (LV) network, and private Steel Wire Armoured networks, assisting in the supervision of teams and resources, delivering in a safe and efficient manner.

The Job

Key areas of responsibility will include: –

  • Working as a LV cable jointer mate on DNO / IDNO LV Networks, New Connections work, including single and 3 phase services (Live and dead) for unmetered supplies, to support the LV Jointer
  • Undertake cable location and identification to ensure safe excavation, cable laying and temporary/ permanent reinstatement, ensuring compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act & NERS.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in line with National Electricity Registration Scheme operational procedures and Via risk and method statements
  • Comply with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and procedures, taking personal responsibility for own and others Health and safety and welfare
  • Be responsible for operating vehicles, plant, tools and equipment ensuring correct use and unnecessary damage, comply with daily routine checks, recording to legal requirements and reporting any damages or defects found.
  • Ensure familiarisation with the Model Distribution Safety Rules, which highlights a set of generic Rules that Western Power Distribution uses as the foundation of its safety management system for operations on its network
  • Preparing cables, cut outs and carrying out routine electrical testing for the Jointer to complete each task
  • Provide a flexible approach to working times / days depending on the needs of the business, and support work on an out of hours emergency call out rota to minimise disruption to the network.

The Person

Mainly you will be excited to be a vital part of our Electrical Team but there are just a few other things we’d like from you: –

  • Hold Industry recognised qualifications, New Roads and Street Works Act
  • Knowledge / experience in the use of plant, transport, materials and operations associated with Highway Electrical Installation and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to apply health and safety legislation to the planning and delivery of Independent Connections Provider works in order to reduce or eliminate risk.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to learn new skills and look for continuous improvement in service delivery
  • Able to understand drawings, follow verbal and written instructions, and to work as part of a team completing works efficiently and safely, including basic IT skills.
  • Hold or be working towards a City & Guilds 2322 / 2339 level 2 or equivalent (advantage).
  • Knowledge and experience of working on the WPD network and equipment.
