Job description

Chill Insurance is currently on the lookout for a Machine Learning Engineer.
This is a specialist role within the new Transformation and Analytics team and reporting into the Transformation and Analytics Director.
This is an exciting new role, working alongside technical and business experts, and pivotal to the delivery of Chill's Analytics roadmap.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering, automating, and enhancing our market-leading data science and Machine Learning (ML) pipelines, implementing best practice guidelines and controls, code quality and tool usage. Initially, a key focus will be the delivery of our ambitious Transformation and Analytics roadmap, which rests on the application of innovative ML approaches to drive optimal customer outcomes and commercial performance. The job holder will build, manage and enhance ML pipelines and new, innovative modelling solutions to deliver data products and analytics platforms across a number of areas (e.g. marketing and distribution, renewals, back-office and digital journeys, across the entirety of Chill's product offering).

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and evolve new ML pipelines and applications across all Chill verticals
  • Tuning of application run-times to ensure runtime SLA's are consistently being met, and any over runs are investigated with mitigations measures put in place;
  • Writing unit test to ensure pipelines are robust and continually evolving the testing strategy;
  • Upskill and collaborate with the wider data, tech and analytical communities in areas of best practice, coding standards, tooling and solution design;
  • Engage with a diverse customer base, to interpret and understand business requirements for ML solutions and secure appropriate business support and approvals;
  • Design and develop new ML applications and techniques which will act as a meaningful competitive differentiator for the company;
  • Manage models after deployment to ensure their correct function and maintain/update/replace them as appropriate;
  • System-test all development objects in line with specifications and manage deployment release of analytics solutions to production environments, and maintain technical documents as required on all analytics reporting solutions;
  • Ensure consistency in the development approach, documentation and apply Chill Data development standards to all areas of activity;
  • Ensure data governance and data policies are being adhered to, in the delivery of high quality analytics solutions and services.
Experience & Qualifications
  • University degree in a numerate subject (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics etc)
  • Substantial knowledge of Python and libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, pandas, numpy)
  • Testing with pytest and exception handling
  • Package management (e.g. anaconda and venv)
  • Experience with AWS, MS Azure, deployment of function apps and data factory pipelines
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry would be an advantage but not essential
