SalaryI am currently working with a highly successful, specialist engineering company, based just outside Colchester, who require a Machine Shop Manager with the confidence, ability and initiative to lead a small team of CNC machine operators. The Machine Shop is modern, clean, well laid out and contains six CNC machines comprising lathes, mills and other specialised machines.
The role:
In this Machine Shop Manager role, you will manage the day-to-day planning and operation of the Machine Shop, including scheduling, prioritising, and delegating work. The role will include:
- Supervising and leading a small team of machinists
- Material cutting
- Turning, milling and manual machining
- Preparing and producing quality, precision machined components from engineering drawings within set tolerances
- Identifying tooling and programming solutions
- Offline programming
- CNC programming Siemens, Protrak and other CNC machines for new parts
- Overseeing development of new parts
- Managing stocks of cutting tools and other key consumables
- Carrying out quality checks
The candidate we are looking for:
The successful candidate will have been a hands-on Machine Shop Manager within a precision engineering company or be looking for the first step into management. Specifically:
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and develop team members
- Able to program, set and operator CNC machinery
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and manuals
- Able to produce precision parts in volume across various metals and from raw castings
- Have a basic level understanding of G-Code
- Have a good knowledge of creating jigs and fixtures
- Ideally a basic understanding of machine workings i.e. sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.
