Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced individual to join us in the capacity of a Maintenance Team Leader   

The purpose of this role is oversee and facilitate the planned, preventative and routine maintenance of a range of equipment and machinery on site at SEM to ensure the smooth running of our facility.  In addition, this role has the responsibility for the management of the maintenance and facilities teams to ensure the response to breakdowns; carrying out of necessary repairs as well as assisting with the installation of new equipment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management and development of the team of Facilities and Maintenance staff in the delivery of consistently high standards of planned, preventative and reactive maintenance and repairs. 
  • To ensure all machines, equipment and tooling are maintained to the optimum standards through adequate maintenance.  Deliver improvements by actively promoting and developing the Total Productive Maintenance system at SEM
  • Devising effective maintenance methods and strategies; upgrading and modifying systems and monitoring the performance of machinery and systems.
  • Undertaking electrical and mechanical fault diagnostics and repairs to a wide variety of machinery, building and domestic services plants, infrastructure and building fabric, fixtures and fittings.
  • Taking full responsibility for site security and emergency call-out cover
  • Ensuring all health, safety and environmental requirements are met within remit
  • Developing and improving on KPI’s for area of responsibility to track and build on performance. 
  • Minimise the likelihood of breakdowns by keeping equipment in a good state of repair and maintaining a planned maintenance programme.  Look for ways to reduce downtime to reduce cost to the business
  • Developing the maintenance function to drive up-time and quality improvements, applying best practice techniques, and supporting continuous improvement philosophies within SEM.
  • Managing and arranging the supervision and health and safety protocols of equipment and facilities contractors
  • Leading the Maintenance department on new equipment/plant installation equipment, plant and workstation moves within the company.
  • Monitoring maintenance and facilities costs and managing resources to meet the organisational needs

Our perfect Maintenance Team Leader would have:

  • A strong background in electrical and mechanical maintenance where TPM has been successfully implemented
  • Proven experience within an electro-mechanical maintenance role or similar with exposure to and experience of carrying out maintenance and repairs to conventional production equipment such as multi-axis CNC machinery
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems
  • A strong awareness and full commitment to the adherence of health and safety guidelines and UK industrial safety standards
  • Approaches challenges with a positive mind-set; has the confidence to make decisions
  • A natural organiser with excellent planning, scheduling and co-ordinating skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured, systematic, professional and conscientious approach.
  • A proactive, pragmatic and flexible approach with the ability to work to own initiative.  Is thorough with a strong attention to detail 
  • Manages multiple tasks with the ability to reprioritise whilst continuing to manage expectations
  • Proficient in all MS Office packages . 
  • Good knowledge of fault-finding and diagnostics on PLC, CNC and PC based control systems. Is able to troubleshoot and fault find on hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Able to read electrical/mechanical drawings & schemes

Qualifications:

  • Apprenticeship service in Engineering or a City & Guilds qualification in an Engineering related field (or equivalent)
  • 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (desirable)
