Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Male Independent Domestic Violence Advisor to join the Medium Risk Domestic Abuse team based in Shoreham by Sea, Sussex working 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday. The role offers hybrid working with two days office-based in Shoreham and three days working from home.

About the Role:

This role offers hybrid working between our office in Shoreham and home. You will need to meet regularly with clients across West and East Sussex, including Brighton and Hove & attend the office for team meetings, training, supervisions and other meetings.

As an IDVA you will:

  • Support the empowerment of the survivor and assist them in recognising the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation
  • Hold a caseload of varying complexity, prioritising high risk cases and providing a pro-active, short to medium term crisis intervention service
  • Conduct comprehensive needs and risk assessments to provide individual safety plans, advocacy, practical support & information
  • Participate in the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), acting as the voice of the survivor and delivering actions as agreed
  • Use a person-centred, survivor-focused approach, being mindful of the effects of trauma and additional barriers to access that individuals may experience
  • Work as a core member of the team, collaborating closely with colleagues and lead/specialist IDVAs to create meaningful pathways of engagement for survivors
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within and beyond Victim Support to ensure that victims’ & survivors’ needs are met
  • Assist in delivering training, and provide consultancy and advice to other agencies as required

You will need:

  • A thorough understanding domestic abuse & its impact
  • Knowledge of risk assessment, safety planning & risk management for survivors of domestic abuse
  • An understanding of safeguarding issues and the legal responsibilities surrounding these
  • Experience of delivering services to survivors of domestic abuse and/or other vulnerable people
  • Experience of working within a multi-agency and legislative framework
  • Experience of managing a complex caseload, prioritising work effectively
  • Knowledge of criminal and civil justice remedies
  • The ability to facilitate groups
