About the Company
A Tier One national contractor are looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager to join their team. This is a £600m turnover business with interests in Energy, Rail, Highways, and Civil Engineering. The Energy arm of the business have enjoyed substantial growth over the past few years, and now need to expand their commercial team with a management position. This role will report into a Commercial Director and will take on the management of 7 Quantity Surveyors from Senior to Trainee Level. The Energy arm of the business are one of the UK's major players within the Power Distribution, Transmission and Renewables sector. This contractor work to build and maintain electrical infrastructure that includes overhead power lines, substations, windfarm connections and battery storage facilities.
About the Role
In this role as Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager (dependant on experience) you will be responsible for the following;
• Provide commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction.
• Co-ordinate the commercial team to ensure programme issues are identified and actioned.
• Proactively manage opportunities, risks and threats.
• Manage the preparation of the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports.
• To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior divisional staff.
• Establish client supply chain requirements & advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements.
• Application of legislation and ability to liaise with legal experts.
• Preparation of Estimates & Tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications & preambles.
• Co-ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques, estimating & surveying functions.
• Management of disallowed cost.
• Oversees & gives advice on training & development
What's Required
Experienced commercial candidates operating at Managing QS or Commercial manager level are ideal for this position however an experienced Senior QS with management responsibility will also be considered. Extensive NEC knowledge, along with exceptional negotiation, leadership and communication skills are required for this position. You have a proven ability to maximise value on frameworks and stand alone projects. Ideally, you have previous experience in Civil Engineering, Utilities, Power, Renewables, Highways or Rail.
