An experienced Manufacturing Engineer is sought after by a well-established specialist precision engineering company.
Overview:
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the manufacturing processes within assigned areas. Responsible for ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency, the Manufacturing Engineer actively supports day-to-day production and contributes to the successful implementation of new products and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the process expert for assigned areas, providing guidance and support.
- Coach and educate production operators, serving as a top problem solver in production-related challenges.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including work instructions, PFMEA, control plans, and maintenance plans.
- Optimise existing production processes with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Manage Capex projects from identification through justification, implementation, and validation.
- Oversee durable and consumable tooling for production.
- Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings.
- Conduct work measurement for accurate capacity and cost determination.
- Manage Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) by implementing improvements to reduce scrap, rework, and returns.
- Collaborate with product development teams to facilitate efficient transitions of new products to the shop floor.
- Deploy lean tools and practices, including standards work, 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Visual Resource Kit (VRK), and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
- Interface with other departments and functions to achieve overall business goals.

Essential Skills, Experience & Competencies:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline; Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial.
- Significant industry experience in metal machining processes and rotating equipment design.
- Proven track record of developing effective manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and process improvement experience.
- Knowledge and experience in deploying lean tools and practices (e.g., standard work, 5S, VSM, TPM).
- Ability to collaborate across organisational functions and achieve results without direct reporting relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- SolidWorks experience is a plus.
- Experience in leading Kaizen or rapid improvement events is advantageous.
- Formal Green Belt/Black Belt training or other problem-solving methods are beneficial.
- Familiarity with Minitab is a plus.
