Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Annual Salary: £38,832- £48,536

Contract: Permanent

Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat® Articulated Trucks, currently producing a 7-model range used in many industries including mining, construction and aggregates.

The facility's manufacturing activities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotic technology and a state-of-the-art paint plant. Machines from the site are shipped to customers around the world.

The Manufacturing Engineering team are responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommending and implementing improvements to production processes, and coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. The team utilises the latest design systems and techniques including 3D virtual vitalisation and Production Validation centres.

As a Manufacturing Engineer within the Team, you will have the opportunity to provide the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing systems, complex manufacturing operations and sophisticated tooling and machinery. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach team members, whilst broadening your professional network.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

- Assignments include leading development of modern automated tool design, fabrication and assembly, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, releasing, etc. and requires the coordination of many disciplines.

- Leads New Product/Process Introduction Programs (following Advanced Product Quality Planning), championing design for manufacture and utilising Virtual Product & Process Design, Development & Validation Processes and latest immersive CAVE Technology & Plant Simulation Tools.

- Support the provision of new (or upgrade of) tooling, machines and equipment.
- Coordinate acquisition and installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide most efficient and economical manufacture or assembly of quality parts. 
- Leading, developing and supporting Operation Excellence Lean Manufacturing ensuring optimum utilisation of equipment and space by coordinating the layout of areas such as production flow lines, product movement, material storage, assembly and test equipment to accommodate the changing production requirements. 
- Coordinates release dates and availability of new machines and equipment and material to maintain schedules and satisfy demand.
- Leads capital and expense related projects for process enhancement and to improve customer satisfaction, conducting research and ensuring proper approvals.  Keeps abreast of industry changes by attending product demonstrations and identifies ongoing improvements in processes and technologies to better serve customers.
- Establishes planned method via standard work and collaborates with manufacturing and support team’s personnel to develop process documentation and/or resolve problems related to process, tooling, equipment, etc.

Skills, experience & qualifications you will have;

- Internal candidates must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of one years’ service in their current position to apply for another role, or have obtained, in writing, authorisation from their manager to waive this requirement. - Internal candidates must not have any live disciplinary or be on a performance action plan

- Technical or university degree in an appropriate Manufacturing Engineering related field (or equivalent)

- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing concepts including fabrication and welding

- Experience of Capital Tooling, Machinery and Equipment Projects
- Working knowledge and experience of planning, manufacturing operations, facilities, methods and tooling required
- Analytical ability as well as excellent communication (Written, verbal and presentation) skills essential
- Excellent team working and building skills and ability to build strong working relationships with personnel at all levels
 

Skills, experience & qualifications you may have;

- Familiar with company policies and procedures with a strong department background.

- Previous experience in the implementation of New Product Introduction and Advance Product Quality Planning

- Previous lean experience (factory & office based)

- Able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders.

- CE / PUWER Qualifications

- Safety / Ergonomic Qualifications

- Leadership Qualifications

- APQP Qualifications

- Previous 6 Sigma experience 
- ERP/SAP experience
