Purpose of the Position
    
To build on the company’s strategy for improved customer service, quality, product cost, productivity and flexibility, the Engineering Manager shall
 
Manage the team members within the Production Engineering Team and work closely with the Principal Engineer to ensure, through the application of appropriate engineering skills, support is provided for routine production and NPI projects.  The team shall champion and develop the DFM process from design concept to product launch. 
 
Manage and improve the business facilities, planning and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed in a timely fashion and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
    
Leadership
Lead the Production Engineering team members and project teams to ensure the function’s support to the organisation leads to its long-term success and all projects are completed and launched successfully.
    
Direct Reports management
Manage the team’s, holidays, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues, and daily supervision to maximise efficient productivity motivate and coach the team to operational success. Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviours expected of them.
    
Factory support
Ensure the business is supported in solving problems that affect production delays to help ensure delivery on time to the customer.
    
NPI & DFM
Manage production engineering activities relating to NPI projects, utilising and developing the DFM process.
    
Facilities
Conduct audits and workplace inspections on a regular, agreed schedule.  Ensure compliance with building security and safety regulations.  Establish a robust, reliable, competitive network of suppliers and contractors.
    
Project management
Project management of all business wide improvement and facilities projects in line with the capital and budget costs.  Determine and define project scope, objectives, determine and manage resources and budget in an effective and efficient manner.  Tender all projects to establish best market prices. Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan providing consistent updates to stakeholders.  Utilise industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution.  Evaluate project outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
    
Health & Safety
Conduct manufacturing safety risk assessments for any new equipment, assembly aides or processes introduced, ensuring any identified risks are appropriately designed out or addressed by documented safe system of work.
    
PFMEA
 Utilise a risk-based approach to product introduction and projects utilising PFMEA where applicable
    
Documentation and Systems
Create and maintain required controlled processes documentation and business systems, always focused on improvement of documentation and systems identifying opportunities for digitalisation.  Create and maintain written and video SOPs to aide communication of assembly method to operators.
    
Time studies
Provide resources to perform time studies to BS3138: 22806 and create production flow sheets to balance work content and achieve effective flow.
    
Tooling/jigs design/ creation
Ensure the. design, trial, manufacture and commission of necessary tooling, jigs, and fixtures whilst prioritising safety and product quality.
    
Communication
Report and escalate any concerns / Production issue etc. to senior management when needed.  Communicate frequent top-level status on the progress of major problem solutions to senior management.
    
LEAN
Ensure the team use appropriate LEAN tools where applicable, including root cause analysis and support the development of a LEAN culture within the business.
    
KPIs
Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for each area of responsibility and ensure KPIs are met.  
 
Specific Skill Requirements
    
Education/Technical Skills

Strong in Project management, Ability to set targets, achieve deadlines in line with defined budgets.
 
Degree Level /equivalent experience in an engineering discipline.
 
Experience in production or Manufacturing Engineering in a quality critical environment (5+ years).
 
Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical and automation systems.
 
Strong IT skills – IT skills, Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Microsoft project.
 
Proficient in use of CAD packages; Solidworks, SolidEdge, AutoCAD.
 
Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse data to advise and compile proactive action plan for improvement activities.
 
Good understanding of the commercial and business implications of failure to deliver quickly and on time.
Experience of working in a Fast-paced Manufacturing industry, with short delivery timescales.
 
Recognised qualification in Health and Safety
 
Experience in lean/ continuous improvement principles; 5S, FMEA, VSM, Process flow, A3 Problem solving etc.
