Marina Attendant (Temp)
Job PurposeThe Marina Attendant (Temp) based in Belfast under the direction of the Berthing Master, is responsible for all aspects of the day to day operations of Belfast Marina. This includes:
·Co-ordination and direction of boats and vessels within Belfast Marina and its immediate vicinity, providing high standards of customer service and care to all marina users.
·Maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental management, including the achievement and/or maintenance of Blue Flag status.
·Maintaining a high standard of maintenance and cleanliness of the marina’s pontoons and facilities.
·Liaising with marina customers as regards fees, NTMs and conditions of use.
·Assisting, wherever appropriate, in the organisation of public events and activities in and around the marina vicinity.
·As and when directed by the DHM, or Berthing Master, to liaise with marina customers as regards fees, navigational protocol, and conditions of use, maintaining good standards of record keeping and reporting.
Key Duties of Marina Attendant (Temp)
1.Ensure compliance with Belfast Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies, procedures and plans, with particular emphasis on those that are specific to the Belfast Marina.
2.Co-ordinate, move and direct boats and vessels within the marina, including allocation of berths, advising and assisting customers wherever practicable and necessary.
3.Assist with the undertaking of risk assessments, ensuring adoption and compliance with all subsequently identified control measures.
4.Support the achievement and maintenance of the marina’s blue flag status by adopting and maintaining good standards of environmental management
5.Undertake cleaning of marina pontoons, facilities and services.
6.Monitoring and assisting with good housekeeping, tidiness, and upkeep of the public spaces in the Marina facilities building.
7.Undertake and record regular inspections of the marina’s facilities and moorings, promptly investigating and reporting any technical faults, damages or problems to ensure prompt attention.
8.Monitor, record and report any accident, incident, complaint and/or apparent non-compliance or infringement of laws/directions to the Deputy Harbour Master.
9.Ensure that access to the marina pontoons and marina building is controlled, using the access control system to produce gate codes as necessary.
10.Communicate and liaise positively and professionally with marina customers as regards fees and conditions of use, as well as with other departments, stakeholders and allied agencies regarding marina’s usage and its day to day operational activities.
11.Assisting, wherever appropriate, in the organisation of public events and activities in and around the marina vicinity.
12.In conjunction with BHC Finance Department, to ensure that all requisite fees and monies due are collected/paid within an appropriate timeframe.
13.Keep accurate and up-to date records of berth usage, producing timely reports as directed by the DHM.
14.Liaise with the Odyssey Trust with respect to the issuance, suspension and cancellation of discounted car parking passes for long term berth holders.
15.Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Harbour Master or other nominated manager.
16.To report on Assure any discrepancies such as oil spills, damage to pontoons, trip hazards, etc
17.Contact Electro when issues arise with sliding door, pontoon gate or ticket machines, to maintain these in-house where possible
18.Operate marine band radio and make radio communication with boaters
19.Liaise with VTS and provide contact information when non-reporting vessels enter channel
20.Monthly checks of navigation lights on pontoons and special marker buoys in Abercorn Basin using Sabik Control
Person Specification
ESSENTIAL
DESIRABLE
Qualifications·Full UK Driving Licence for a manual car
·First Aid Certificate
·VHF Short Range or GMDSS Certificate
·Relevant Boat Handling Qualification recognised by the MCA or RYA
e.g. Minimum of Commercially Endorsed RYA Power Boat Level 2 or BWSF Boat Driver Level 2
·Relevant Water Safety or Basic Sea Survival training
·Qualification in IT competency, particularly with Microsoft Office
Experience and Skills
·Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a customer facing role
·Significant and recent boat handling experience
·Be able to demonstrate a sound working knowledge and aptitude of Microsoft Office.
Knowledge
·Local navigational knowledge and understanding port navigation
·Good knowledge of health and safety legislation, as well as best practices

Location
·Due to Belfast Marina’s location, it would be desirable that applicants have access to their own transport.
Physical Requirements
·Capable of climbing quayside and beacon ladders
·Capable of operating in an exposed environment during all seasons and inclement weather conditions.
·Hold an ML5 or equivalent medical certificate.
Other requirements
·Willing and able to work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays, and to be available for overtime, sometimes at short notice.

Location: Belfast
Days of work: Sunday and Monday 9:30am to 5pm.
Salary: £10.42 per hour plus accrued holiday pay
