The Maritime Assurance Assessor is an ideal role for a Maritime Professional with a senior deck or engineering background, who has a passion for safety, and the ability to tackle engaging projects to enable success during a time of significant change for our industry.

You will join Shell Shipping & Maritime's Assurance team in London who are providing support to local and global Shell and Joint Venture businesses. What's the role?
On a day-to-day basis, your role will be to assesses the quality of all internationally trading tankers, dry bulk carriers and project vessels, proposed for use by Shell Group Companies, to avoid Shell using or being associated with a sub-standard ship, thus minimising the risk of:
  • harm to people or the environment
  • damage to Shell's reputation
  • financial claims on Shell
These activities will take place across Crude, Products, LNG, and Speciality businesses, and you will spend time engaging internally - and externally, cultivating a real spirit of partnership.
We entrust you with responsibility to positively assure Shell's Maritime activity, managing the effective close out of Maritime incidents, conduct reviews of 3rd Party Ship management companies, all of which have a significant impact on Shell's reputation in the maritime industry due to the high level of engagement with external stakeholders. You'll find yourself in a very visible role and will be the focal for several engaging projects.
As a Marine Assurance Assessor, we will also be looking to share your maritime expertise and experiences on all areas of Maritime Assurance. Working both independently, yet as an integral part of a virtual team, you'll thrive on the collaborative relationships with a range of stakeholders.
What we need from you
We are keen to hear from Maritime Professionals who have held a Class 1 (Deck or Engineering) issued by a recognised flag and have a solid understanding of the relevant International standards, Classification Society Rule and Regulations. Candidates with a strong background in chemical operations will be particularly attractive to us.
  • With significant experience in this field and a solid understanding of tanker operations
  • Able to bring us recent operational or business experience, that can be utilised to manage current and emerging maritime risks in Safety, Compliance and Environmental Performance
  • A commercial mindset, with an understanding of the trading business.
  • Evidence of your resilience and ability to successfully manage challenge and conflict
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
