About GSMA Membership & Working Groups Marketing

Membership & Working Groups Marketing supports the General Manager, Membership and their team to deliver against their objectives of growing, nurturing, and sustaining an engaged and active member base. The role involves sales lead generation as well as promotion of the multitude of ways members benefit from their Membership and are driving industry impact & evolution.
The role also involves the delivery of the GSMA Pavilion, an exhibition showcase of GSMA’s industry priorities and members involved in those initiatives, at MWC events globally.

The role requires close working with many internal teams and stakeholders including Membership, Technology, Industry Services, Brand & Content, PR, Legal, Finance, and the events business.

About the Role

The Marketing Director will primarily be responsible for producing and implementing the strategy and marketing plans that support the Membership function and its respective growth and retention targets.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Supporting the General Manager, Membership by developing and driving forward the delivery of a marketing strategy that focuses on growing the membership base significantly over the next three years, maintaining the existing base and plans to reduce churn;
  • Supporting the Chief Engineer by ensuring ongoing marketing & promotion of GSMA’s industry Working Groups and related member extranet, ‘Member Gateway’;
  • Sales lead generation and associated onboarding in support of the Membership Sales Team and organisational targets;
  • Identifying and implementing evaluation methods for measuring year-on-year success against the membership marketing strategy;
  • Working cross-functionally to understand the value of the GSMA to support the membership value proposition that deepens engagement with our membership;
  • Use knowledge of the industry, competitors and the market to inform continuous improvement and develop plans to support a market-leading experience for members and customers;
  • Team leadership including management, growth and development of a highly effective marketing team;
  • Developing a communications plan for both internal and external stakeholders that highlights and promotes the breadth of the impact and benefits to, and from, our member-base;
  • Working with the regional teams to ensure global support for, and promotion of, our members;
  • Streamlining membership marketing-related processes, ensuring appropriate documentation is in place;
  • Ownership and delivery of GSMA Pavilion, GSMA’s exhibition booth at MWC events, representing the GSMA’s work and its member ecosystem at GSMA’s industry-leading events.
About You
  • You are a B2B marketing expert, with experience leading highly effective marketing teams in the Membership and/or telecoms space;
  • You will have a proven track record of sales lead generation and associated conversion support and ongoing engagement;
  • Expertise in events, database-focused marketing, website, social and email marketing campaigns as well as building close industry relationships;
  • Strategic thinker; able to define, articulate and drive strategic marketing goals forward to completion;
  • Strong ability to influence cross-departmentally to drive forward outcomes;
  • Keen focus on innovation and opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills;
  • Able to travel occasionally globally.
