The Marlowe, Canterbury is one of this country’s most successful large-scale independent theatres. We present a year-round programme of national touring productions across a range of artforms including theatre, dance, opera, and music, in our 1,200-seat Theatre and we develop and present work in our 150-seat Studio. Supporting artists, engaging with our communities, and developing the creative lives of the next generation are central to our mission to be the engine house for the performing arts in our region and to shape the spirit of Kent.

We have recently been successful in receiving initial support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to create a world-class creative learning centre for the young people of Kent in the Marlowe Kit. The project will restore and revitalise the Grade I Listed former Poor Priests Hospital in Canterbury, harnessing the 800-year history of the building to create a flexible, inspiring space for young people to flourish, and an engaging and exciting space for visitors and the community.

As part of the Development Phase of the capital project, we are recruiting for a Capital Campaign Manager whose post is funded by the Heritage Fund. This post will take the lead in raising £3.4m in partnership match funding required for the Delivery Phase of the project. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Theatre’s revenue fundraising team to build strong, long-lasting relationships with a variety of funders.

We are seeking an exceptional fundraiser who can build on the extensive fundraising feasibility study and implement a well-thought through and comprehensive Capital Fundraising Strategy to achieve a transformational income target. You will lead on building and managing a high-level volunteer campaign committee, executing strategic Trusts & Foundations Applications, and the cultivation of major donors- asking and closing where appropriate.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable capital fundraising experience and will relish this once-in-a-career opportunity to leave their mark on the historic landscape of Canterbury and the cultural lives of the next generation. They will be a fantastic communicator and passionate about their work, resilient in the face of any challenge that comes their way and supportive of their colleagues.

There’s never been a better time to join our team. Our investment in our loyalty strategy has ensured that we have consistently strong and engaged audiences for our varied programme as well and a strong fundraising pipeline. We’ve also received recognition from our industry, winning a Stage Award for our innovative approach to supporting the theatre sector and a Workforce Award from UK Theatre for our investment in our People Plan, ensuring our high calibre team are rewarded and supported.

The Marlowe is an inclusive employer. We value difference and recruit by merit based on fair and open competition. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability status, citizenship, or any other aspect which makes them unique.

We are a Creative Green organisation and are committed to taking action on climate change and environmental sustainability.
