Job description

Due to team expansion, a great new opportunity has arisen to join a global engineering firm in the role of Material Planner / Buyer.

The Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) Planner/Buyer will ultimately be responsible for co-ordination and execution of all activities related to the planning and procurement of raw materials and components, converting the output of the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and the Detailed Schedule (DS) into material requirements to ensure availability of the right quantity of components to the production lines when needed. Communicating the plan to the different suppliers within the agreed lead times. Be an integral part of a team which optimises the flow of materials, while considering the plants capacity and inventory targets in order to eliminate potential disruptions at site level

Please note this role is fully office based.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Execute the development, maintenance, communication, and publication of the Materials Requirements Plans (MRP) to ensure that customer requirements are met.

2.Maintain Raw Materials and Components inventories within our goal, while minimising excess, obsolete and expired materials.

3.Ensure that all material delivery schedules are communicated to the suppliers on time in order to meet plan requirements.

4.Liaises with the suppliers to clarify potential plan constraints and interfaces between supplier and the key internal stakeholders to ensure issue resolution.

5.Interfaces with Quality and Stores staff regarding rejected / defective materials, making the necessary physical arrangements with the supplier to ensure a prompt return of goods or disposal.

6.Liaises with warehouse staff to understand and adhere to space constraints, managing inventory levels within agreed targets.

7.Support the S&OP processes where required for material and component suppliers.

8.Effectively partner with all internal and external business partners.

9.Focuses and encourages continuous improvements (CI) of the process supported.

10.Supports material and component Phase in and Phase Out processes.

11.Liaises with Purchasing to ensure seamless flow of information and ensure a fully integrated approach to delivering key metrics Customer Service, Inventory, and Cost.

12.Understand and use QAD action message to support daily activity

13.Any other duties as required by business demands, commensurate to reasonable request from Line Manager

Key Accountabilities

1. Ensure that appropriate individual targets and objectives set, are maintained in line with the Company s PDR system process

2. Ensure departmental Standard Operating Procedures are reviewed and maintained on a regular basis

3. Ensure departmental KPIs are maintained and monitored, with any corrective actions identified and implemented

4. H&S procedures shall be followed at all times

5. Maintain the manufacturing metrics in QAD and PFEP Database

6. Keep sales informed of delays to orders via QAD Performance Date changes

Key Performance Indicators

Measurement

1. Timely issuing of PO All Order type action messages cleared each day

2. High level of adherence to PO due dates OTD >85%

3. High level of accuracy of monthly shipment forecast Actual within 10%

4. Strategic stock levels Maintained within set parameters

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION (S) / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE

• A-C GCSE (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science

• Working knowledge of Purchasing/ MRP systems and supplier management

• Minimum 3 years experience of working in a Production Planning / Material Control function

• Experience in developing & executing procurement/ planning strategies for production components in the industrial domain as heavy industrial, mechanical, plastic, rubber, electro-mechanic, electronics

• Comprehensive understanding of MRP & visual Kanban set-up & scheduling

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES

• Comprehensive PC skills, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint

• Demonstrates effective communication and teamwork skills

• Sense of urgency and professional manner in communication with all stakeholders

• Good attention to detail

• Highly organised and able to work to deadlines

• Lean Knowledge with reference to Making Materials Flow

• Problem solving skills ability
