Job Description: Exciting opportunities await as we invite a driven and experienced Materials and Plant Buyer to join our esteemed building main contractor team based in Peterborough. As a pivotal member of our procurement department, you will play a vital role in securing Materials and Plant equipment efficiently and cost-effectively for our construction projects. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless operation of our supply chain, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality projects.

Responsibilities:

• Source, negotiate, and procure Materials and Plant equipment essential for construction projects.
• Conduct thorough market research to identify reliable suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing without compromising quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to understand project requirements and ensure timely material delivery.
• Manage supplier relationships, monitoring performance, and swiftly resolving any issues or disputes that may arise.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, pricing agreements, and supplier information.
• Monitor inventory levels to optimize stock availability while minimizing excess or obsolete stock.
• Stay updated on industry trends, new products, and innovations in materials/plant equipment procurement practices.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Materials or Plant Buyer within the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of building materials (e.g., timber, steel), plant equipment (e.g., excavators), and tools & consumables used in construction projects.
• Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable terms with suppliers.
• Familiarity with procurement processes, including RFQs/RFPs evaluation criteria selection process, etc.
• Proficient in using procurement software/systems for purchase order management (e.g., SAP).
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; ability to analyze data/reports related to purchasing activities effectively.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders as well as external suppliers/vendors.

Salary Range: 30k - 40k per annum (depending on experience)
