At Leonardo Helicopters we are looking for a Materials Engineer to join our team in Yeovil.
Job Scope:
To support the production of Rotor Blades and Dynamic Components manufactured in DCC Yeovil to help achieve deliveries on time and to cost. To provide technical materials and processing expertise to support the other functions within the department and its supply chain.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AS A MATERIALS ENGINEER
Provide technical support on materials and processes relevant to DCC and its sub-contractors in order to aid and improve production. This will involve, investigation into process issues, component defects, new product introduction, process improvements
Carry out routine process control and materials testing, and specimen preparation to support the DCC production build schedule. Assess results and approve as acceptable/unacceptable against technical document requirements
Carry out component teardowns and assessment of the results as acceptable/unacceptable against pre-defined technical document requirements
Provide technical support to the Quality Manager DCC for non-conformance root cause analysis and subsequent elimination. Proactively implement techniques and problem solving tools to identify root cause, containment and corrective action plans to eliminate re-occurrence
Assessment and clearance of component offcuts
Attend DCC production meetings relevant to your areas of responsibility to ensure priorities are in line with DCC delivery schedules
Carry out and document qualification of special processes used within DCC in accordance with the company instruction
Carry out and document training and approval of DCC operators to enable them to work to special processes
Assess and approve component thermal surveys
You are responsible for taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate with managers, supervisors and others to enable the company to meet its statutory obligations for health, safety and environment
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Qualified to Degree in Materials Science or Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related Science or Engineering subject together with relevant experience or HNC/HND/BTEC and Apprenticeship plus relevant experience
Specialist knowledge of composite material science, metallic surface treatments, engineering design and manufacturing technology
Practical experience in the manufacture and testing of composite and adhesive coupon specimens and writing of the subsequent technical reports
Proven ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines from multiple customers, and manage your own time accordingly.
A thorough understanding and experience of using PC applications, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Training will be provided for and approval gained to stamp for and approve the results of routine production support testing
Practical workshop and laboratory experience/skills are desirable but training will be given
Due to the nature of this role the hiring manager is prepare to give training on some of the required skills
